Straight from the pages of Otaku USA Magazine comes international Cosplay
correspondent and Actress, Yunmao Ayakawa. Hailing from the Akihabara region of
Tokyo, Japan, The multi talented Model, Actress, Artist, Game Character Designer,
Journalist and Personality has gained worldwide fame as the region’s spokeswoman
and foremost authority on everything Otaku, as well as the Maid Idol industry. Her
passion for Cosplay and geekdom has gained her spotlight rolls as correspondent for
magazines, media websites and featured guests at events and TV shows around the
world, while her love and knowledge of the Maid Idol industry has earned her a
prestigious spot as a board member and Spokesperson of the Nihon Maid Association,
She currently writes articles for Japan based periodicals like Manichi Newspaper,
MSN.com (Japan), and Cosmode Magazine and in 2007 her coverage of Cosplay and
Otaku Trends led to her Cosplay Café articles in Otaku USA magazine, making her the
first Japanese Cosplayer to write articles for an American magazine. She is also the
author of the first cookbook for Otaku styled healthy eating and her own comic strip
called Yu Yu Maid which appears regularly in issues of Otaku USA magazine.
Media from around the world has sought Yunmao out for features and to host
segments of TV shows surrounding otaku Cultures and cosplay. Yunmao has co-hosted
shows like “Japanorama” (BBC) and “Otaku” (Spain) and has reported for “Moete Mucho,” “MAiDiGi TV,” “TV Mantan” and other Japanese variety shows. Yunmao has also
appeared on America’s Bizarre Foods with host Andrew Zimmern! Catching the acting
bud, Yunmao had a starring role in the Japanese super hero TV series “CHOSOKU
SENSHI G-FIVE”. Magazines such as “Flash”, “Sabra”, “Arms Magazine”, and “Position,”
have all showcased Yunmao as a feature model and she is a top idol download for
Japanese cell phone screen savers, games and even hosts a “Dear Abby” style advice
service via cell phones in Japan.
Yunmao is also an annual main attraction at events in Japan and around the world. In 2006 she made an impressive American debut at Anime Mid-Atlantic as the Japanese outlaw, Toki Takahasu, from DJ AAROCK’s graphic novel, “Cove Pirate Mercenary.” Her perky energy and unbeatable knowledge of cosplay, Maid Cafe’s, and Otaku culture gained her instant popularity with American audiences and invitations to more events. Yunmao’s summer schedule includes her role as Race Queen, model, costume designer and event spokesperson at car shows and raceways. On numerous occasions she has held the title of “Race Queen” in Japan’s Super Taikyu race and continues in the circuit to this day. In 2011 Yunmao upped the ante and sang on a CD single with the Race Queen duo Noisy and in 2012 formed Speed Angels leading to an electronic dance EP single release. Yunmao also helped launch, designed costumes for and is Spokesperson and racing Queen for Gloomy Bear Racing Team.
NY based Electro Dance Pop singer, Ren Nyan is well known for her futuristic adorability, profound concepts and a high-energy onstage presence.
Reni was born and raised in Japan until relocating to New York in 2008. Her big break came after she won a talent search competition. She then released her first Japanese CD in 2006 produced by Takahiro Yamautsuri, who composed the music for one of the Pokemon movies.
Reni relocated to New York hoping to bring her unique style of Moe entertainment to the United States. Reni has quickly gained wide attention, and has been invited to perform in prominent animation conventions and other music events. In 2009 Reni released her U.S. CD album "Sakura" and published her first photo book "Maid in NY" in 2010. Her latest album, Hybrid Girl blends eastern Moe concepts with fun western electro-pop dance beats and features popular tracks like Secret and Rock Paper Scissors. Reni has also produced the first Official Maid Café in New York City, which has garnered a great deal of press and recognition.
As her fan base increased, attention from the industry in the U.S. and Japan has grown rapidly. In 2010, the National Broadcasting Television Station of Japan (NHK) made 2 documentaries on Reni's career in America and the impact of her performances on western audiences and the fashion industry. She can be ssen in a popular iPhone 5 commercial and was recently featured on the ABC Nightline. Now Reni is recognized as a leader in the Moe Revolution, Kawaii/ Cute/ Blossoming movement which is already popular and appreciated as an entertainment Art form in Asia and Europe and believed to lead the world to peace.
Not easily missed with his outrageous outfits, Lord Ramirez is a presenter and educator at many Sci Fi, Anime, and Alternative conventions across the U.S.
As a professional actor and stage combatant, he has dazzled crowds at Renaissance fairs, Busch gardens, and was a lead cast member in a show at Caesars' casino in Atlantic City. He is also a former open professional ballroom dance finalist, teacher, and adjudicator
In the realm of steam he is no stranger! He has been all over the east coast teaching about steampunk culture and costuming as well as holding and hosting "Steampunk Teas"
While he has actively retired from "professional cosplay", (He has won numerous costuming awards and cash prizes for his costuming and makeup) Lord Ramirez has an active interest in teach the next generation of cosplayers all the tips and tricks he has learned to make your visions into reality!
Having studied Japanese martial arts from age five, he has developed a lifelong passion for Japanese culture. He has a wealth of knowledge on a variety of topics in regards to Japanese history, religion, and activities. He has been teaching these panels and workshops at conventions all over that country.
At conventions, his topics vary wildly from costuming and makeup, dance, and classes on Japanese culture. You never know what he will teach next. But one thing is certain weird, strange, and fun, you can bet Lord Ramirez will have some knowledge to share!
Danielle McRae is a voice over actress residing in Los Angeles, CA. As a huge fan of video games and anime, her passion has led her to pursue a voice acting career. Some of her most notable credits have been in (League of Legends) as Karma the Enlightened One, (World of Warcraft: Cataclysm) as Hagara the Stormbinder, S-Sha in (Megadimension Neptunia VII) and Painwheel in the Popular 2D fighting game, (Skullgirls Encore). She’s also been in anime such as (Sword Art Online), (Gargantia) as Onderia and (Magi: The Kingdom of Magic) as Orba.
Danielle has also earned several other roles in many other video games including Threia Hazelgrimm in (Atelier Escha & Logy), Rogue from (Nuclear Throne), Sen from (Celestial Tear: Demon's Revenge), Rift Arachna in (Heroes of Newerth), Sidel in (Dragon Nest), Captain Arley Sims and the Adjutant in (Starcraft Universe), Isys in (Dead Island: Epidemic), Rami in (Banzai Arcade) and more.
From opening for K-pop artist Jay Park to touring Japan and rocking on
stage with popular artists, DJ AAROCK (The Awesome Asu Rock) has been
very influential within the American and Asian & urban entertainment
scene as a DJ, Producer, Illustrator, Promoter, and Manager of multiple
Japanese acts. In the last decade alone AAROCK has self publish a graphic
novel as well as toured multiple U.S. cities and countries around the world
performing at major events, parties and nightclubs and shared the stage
with international singers, hip-hop artists and musicians.
On more than one occasion he has DJ’d for the Korean Embassy, while
also being the DJ of choice for Serious XM Radio’s, Korea TODAY Launch
Party, the Verizon / Mnet, B.A.P. pre-show event, Smithsonian’s Asia After
Dark, KORUS Festival, Katsucon, Anime Mid Atlantic, JAFAX, Realmscon,
and Urban Artistry, to name a few. His own events include the Galactic
Block Party at conventions around the country where he showcases his ability to party-rock using multiple genres of music, AMA’s Super Disco Night party, Baltimore/DC’s first Asian based Nightclub party, Pop Show Japan, the Asian concert series Akiba-Fest, and the Jazz Hop concert tour MORE B.A.R.K. LESS BITIN’ in Japan. DJ AAROCK has Also served as DJ for the progressive hip hop group SNRG and shared the stage with Jay Park, Blush, Volta Masters, The Aziatics, Shing02, Hydeout Records resident DJs, Substantial, Bop Alloy, Asheru, K-Murdock, Random AKA Megaran, Luis Logic, DJ Icewater, Salia, Unicorn Table, Reni, Project.R, Yoko Ishida, SickBoi, Lyrics, M.I.Z, Psychic Lover, Gemini (GMNI), Apollo, Gowe, and more.
As a skilled illustrator, graphic designer and Airbrush artist, AAROCK is currently partner of the popular Northern Virginia based custom print store, Air Kinetix where you can see his praised airbrush skills in action. In 2017 he will be revisiting his well received pirate based Action adventure graphic novel “Cove: Pirate Mercenary.
L. G. Ransom
L.G. Ransom was born in Miami, Florida but grew up living in various countries around the world including Europe and the British West Indies.
She is an accomplished artist who’s computer art and acrylic canvasses have graced the cover of many books, including her own. She has recently expanded her canvass paintings to include custom works of hockey players.
She’s a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, a photographer, a hockey mom, a stage mom, and Lifetime Girl Scout. Mrs. Ransom lives in the suburbs of Washington D.C. with her husband, two completely fabulous teenagers, a very spoiled Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and their evil half -Siamese cat which she believes plots to kill them in their sleep.
In July of 2012 she was diagnosed with invasive ductile breast cancer. Complications from her cancer treatment lead to a stroke in 2014; thankfully she fought through it and is back home with her family enjoying life and is able to continue doing what she loves—writing. L.G.’s next installment of the Sentinel Dawn Series is being written now and she has completed the first draft of a prequel series of books. She is taking life one day at a time and trying to find the humor in all aspects of her life.
