Kristine Sa Christmas Gift of Music!

August 11, 2005 Press Release

Kristine Sa A young singer/songwriter with a sultry voice of gold, Kristine was born in 1982 and immigrated to Toronto, Canada at the age of 6. Watching her older sister rise to fame as a singer in the local music industry, she harbored dreams of her own career in entertainment, but kept them to herself. After all, her sister was the gifted one in the family. Secretly writing songs and recording them in her basement, she hid her growing talent for years. In 1998 at the age of 16, Kristine took the first shot at her dream and joined an all girl group. Mismanaged and unorganized the group quickly fell apart, but not before her voice left an impression on a friend who referred Kristine to a start up label in New York City. Looking for an artist to record, Nemesis Records convinced Kristine to record for the new label after having read poetry from her internet homepage and listening to the songs that Kristine had been secretly recording over the years.

For 2 years Kristine flew back and forth between Toronto and New York on the weekends to record with Nemesis while going to school full time. During that time, some of her completed songs were released as promotional mp3s and Kristine amassed a following the world over. When "I Never Knew" was finally released in February of 2002, sales exploded and CDs were sold to fans all over the US and as far away as Taiwan, Australia and The UK. With "reBIRTH" Kristine continues to expand her loyal fan base, combining her trademark sound with new collaborations and producers and crossing-over to a brand new audience. As more people discover her music Kristine's dreams are slowly becoming reality.

Kristine has just completed vocals for an Anime remix album to be released by Jellybean/Sony. The album is called "AnimeToonz3: Kristine Sa" and will feature remixes of songs from some of the world's most popular Anime including Inuyasha, Cowboy Bebop, Ranma 1/2 and Gundam Seed. Nemesis labelmate DJ Jinnai will contribute heavily along with a host of other remixers and DJs. "AnimeToonz3: Kristine Sa" will be distributed by Jellybean Recordings directly to retail and online outlets beginning in December. Kristine's 3rd full length album "In My Mind" is due May 2006 on Nemesis Records.

Kristine will be performing late afternoon on Saturday of the convention.

Steve Yun
Harmony Gold
Robotech.com

Steve YunWhile still a young college student and part-time hacker in 1998, Steve got his first job at an anime company as a digital animator. It was a dream come true for any fan who grew up on Robotech and Macross to be working somewhere in the anime industry. After slaving away through 80 hour work weeks and one really bad 100 hour work week where he started hallucinating from being awake too long, Steve called it quits and went back to Riverside where he got his BA in Creative Writing. Stay in school, kids!

Soon afterwards, Steve joined Harmony Gold, where he slept and ate and even showered at the office while under grueling deadlines to put Robotech.com together in time for its February 2001 launch. After being caught working overtime after being told not to, Steve has been allowed to keep a cot at the office ever since.

Since becoming part of Harmony Gold, Steve Yun has had fansites and fanclubs devoted to him, as well as internet stalkers, convention stalkers, petitions to get him fired and websites devoted to exposing the "real" Steve Yun. Steve has co-produced and associate-produced several other projects as well, including the Macross restoration, the Robotech:Battlecry videogame, the Robotech: Invasion videogame, Robotech Remastered and Robotech: Shadow Chronicles. Steve has also been featured in an anime documentary called Geeks, which he has still not had a chance to see.

Since its launch, Robotech.com has constantly been one of the busiest anime-related destinations on the internet, being the subject of a Slashdot article, a Conan O'Brien feature and mentioned on countless anime websites. You can email Steve at info@robotech.com to send him Robotech-related fan mail, complaints, constructive criticism and suggestions.

Tommy's Fan Art from '80s

Tommy Yune has worked for over a decade in the comic book and video game industries. His early game development experience includes character design of the pioneering 3D fighting game FX Fighter for the Nintendo SuperFX chip and conceptual design of The Journeyman Project series. He also wrote and illustrated hit comic book titles such as Speed Racer, Racer X, Robotech, and Danger Girl: Kamikaze which were published by DC Comics' Wildstorm and Cliffhanger labels. His first work in feature animation was creating the computer-generated opening sequence of Kevin Altieri's Gen13.

Tommy grew up on a steady diet of anime, watching as much Prince Planet, Speed Racer, Gatchaman and Casshan as he could in Asia and the United States. Then he shunned television and went back to being a responsible student to the delight of his parents. However, right before entering the UCLA School of Engineering, Robotech brought anime back into his life and he eventually found himself at the ArtCenter College of Design instead. His parents wept.

Tommy first worked in an official capacity for the Robotech universe by helping design Robotech.com for its launch in 2001. He has now come aboard as Harmony Gold's creative director and oversees new development, including the new Robotech sequel scheduled for release in 2005.

2wcOnline
2wconline.com

2wcOnline started out as Wacky Warm-ups Creativity Services, a small artisitic business created by Danny Valentini and Jamie Godley (Sturges) as a trade name for all of their creative endeavors.  2wcOnline first made a big impression when Danny published the first Draconia calendar in 1999.  The calendars were originally just a collection of monthly pin-ups, but soon after a storyline emerged that ran tandem to the calendar art and told of a centuries-old war between female dragon and tiger warriors.  In the fall of 2002, Donnie Sturges took over as head writer for the growingly popular calendar series.  In the summer of 2004 it was agreed between the two that the Draconia storyline had simply become too big for the annual calendars and so began the transcension of the saga from calendar to web comic.  The web comic debuted in January of 2005 and a new creative team was formed to handle the exhaustive duties of maintaining it.  In addition to Danny and Donnie, 2wcOnline added the artistic talents of Jen and Renee Starling, and Jason Cumberledge.  Each member fills a vital role that keeps the Draconia story fresh and popular.  During the summer of 2005, Jen and Renee Starling brought a fresh, new web comic to 2wcOnline with Tales from New Winter.  Now, 2wcOnline has quickly become a fast-growing online web comics studio, adding new projects such as Jen Brown’s popular Aozora web comic, as well as Psycho Dreamatic – a new project created and written by Donnie Sturges with art by Jason Cumberledge.  And coming soon in 2006, 2wcOnline will be adding another new comic called Why So – created, written and drawn by Jamie Sturges.

Steve Bennett
Steve Bennett Art

Stephen Robert Bennett IV was born *&#@?! years ago at Tachikawa Air Force Base in Tokyo Japan. Being an Army brat, Steve moved all over the place in his younger days with his parents and four brothers, He spent his early years in Alaska and Colorado, and lived for almost eight years in Germany during elementary and junior high. The family moved back to Japan when Steve was in his teens, and while he was there he was lucky enough to land a job with Studio Aoehyma, and work under the great Japanese animator, Noboru Furusei (New Dominion Tank Police, Lupin III, etc.) During his time at Studio Aoehyma, Steve learned quite a bit about anime, and worked on such titles as Cat's Eye, the Urusei Yatsura TV Series and Only You, as well as many others for television and Movies.
But finally, the family moved back to the States and settled in Virginia. Steve finished up high school, took some college courses, and ended up working at a bunch of different jobs. He worked at King's Dominion amusement park (where he met his future wife Nikki www.roccapiafarm.com "Cow Council" comics), and he also worked in a Japanese restaurant, a video store, and ended up working in construction.
Steve's Interest in Military history lead him to take part in such movies as "Gettysburg" and various History Channel shows. Just look for him in the feathered gray slouch hat next to the soldiers in gray kepis!
About the time Steve and Nikki tied the knot (1994), Steve attended his first anime convention as a guest--Katsucon 1-- and finally remembered his true calling. He started up Studio Ironcat, a Japanese manga publisher, in 1997 and quit his construction job. Ironcat ran until 2005. Although Steve enjoyed his time with Ironcat, the job kept him too busy to focus on his own art. With the close of Ironcat, Steve was finally free to create his own comics, and get back into the artistic side of the industry. Today, Steve is busier than ever at conventions, has two new webcomics on-line at www.stevebennettart.com ("Shakespeare Rodeo" and "Life With Steve") and is finally letting his creative juices flow!
(And Koala's are running rampant at Koala Klub too!) Steve is also working with www.scrollquest.com and "Angel Of St.Thomas" as a character designer and comic artist among a host of other artistic collaborations with other creators. Steve is also proud to be a part of the "Voices For Peace" project as well.

Steve has been to numerous anime conventions over the years (too many to mention here!) and has also lent his talents to other venues, such as the American Movie Association, Loyola University in Louisiana, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Iowa Gallery of Art. Steve also won the 1996 Osamu Tezuka Award for outstanding American Anime/Manga artist, and has taught animation/cel painting instructional classes at Comic Anime and Anime Pavilion. Steve's many appearances and personal approach to teaching and talking with anime fans about anime/manga over the years and his involvement with charities American Cancer Society, The Lupus Foundation, and Make A Wish Foundation have earned him the sobriquet of "Anime's Goodwill Ambassador" Steve's friendly nature will entertain and inform all folks big and small so wherever he appears next, just pull up a chair, sit back, shoot the breeze with him and enjoy the ride!

Guest Writers and Filmmakers

Kay Reynolds

Kay Reynolds is a long time fan of animation, film, fantasy, horror, sf, comics, detective and thriller fiction. Her interest in fandom led her to a job with The Donning/Company Publishers in 1981 where she became Senior Editor for the Starblaze imprint. That’s where she edited and published the original color “ElfQuest” graphic novels by Wendy and Richard Pini. They became the best selling graphic novels published at that time and the first successfully sold in mainstream bookstores, such as Walden and B. Dalton.

She developed the Starblaze Graphics imprint for the fledgling line of graphic novels and art books. In pursuit of manga and anime titles, she discovered Harmony Gold’s then-new series, Robotech. Publishers and bookstores were hesitant to approach the anime market. No one had ever done it before. Her ElfQuest strategy – “If you publish, they will buy” – pushed Donning into the market. She wrote and edited the first Roman album influenced anime book in the United States, “Robotech Art 1,” the success of which led to “Robotech Art 2” and “Robotech Art 3.”

Still at Donning, Kay also wrote a graphic novel with her brother, Mike, called “Fortune's Friends: Hell Week.” It featured two detectives, an independent female and a gay male, and with art by Colleen Doran, it was definitely a tribute to shonen-ai manga.

She has had many short stories published in the horror and fantasy genres, for Tome, Barnes & Noble, and other publishers. Now working in journalism, Kay currently lives in Virginia, with her cats and collections, and writes a lot of non-fiction for The Virginian-Pilot.

Robert V Aldrich
www.teachthesky.com

Robert V Aldrich Robert V Aldrich was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in the questionable year of 1980. Growing up around the entire Southeast, with a short stint in Salt Lake City, Utah, he now calls Raleigh North Carolina home. He was briefly educated at North Carolina State University before pursuing other educational avenues. An avid martial artist and toy collector, Aldrich spends most of his days torn between writing, training, and playing too many video games.

Growing up on shows such as Transformers, Robotech, Voltron, and even the short-lived Dragon Warrior cartoon, Aldrich became a huge anime fan very early on. But while the remarkable story-telling and worlds of anime existed and endured through innumerable art forms, there was never any 'real' attempt at an original anime story within the literature world. Starting as a simple story to keep in touch with friends, Crossworld soon became the first anime-style novel published in the United States.

Taking inspiration from anime greats such as Yukito Kashiro and Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, as well as more traditional western writers like Robert Heinlein and Colleen Doran, Aldrich has fused the anime story-telling style into western-style writing. With the rerelease of Crossworld, as well as the launch of the weekly serial Teach the Sky, Robert V Aldrich hopes to contribute to the anime world by leading the way for an anime genre of literature.

Robert V Aldrich's second Crossworld book is available on Amazon.com.
