The Art Show is where professional and amateur artists can showcase their anime, fantasy, and sci-fi-inspired works for convention attendees. Attendees are welcomed to browse the collected works. The Art Auction, on Sunday of the convention, is where attendees can bid on pieces in hopes of taking home some artwork.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our Art Show Coordinator at: vanorahagen@starpower.net.

Artist's Paperwork

If you are an artist who will be placing artwork into the art show, you can get a head start on the paperwork. Just download these two forms (PDF format), fill them out, and bring them with you when you check your artwork in to the show. You will need to download the control sheet, fill in your personal information and list all the artwork you are bringing for display. After that, print out the bid sheets and fill out one bid sheet for each piece of art that you are bringing. All of this can be taken care of at the convention, so it's completely up to you if you want to fill out this stuff before you come or not.

Rules for Artists

1. NO PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE ART SHOW EXCEPT FOR THE PURPOSE OF ARCHIVING YOUR OWN WORK: This is not to say that any photography cannot be displayed as an artwork; just that you cannot take photographs or bring a camera into the Art Show unless it's to document your own work.

2. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE ORIGINAL WORK BY ARTIST: This does not include computer art or photographs unless they have signed affidavits of being unique prints (as in being the only ones available at the convention), or hand-colored cells and/or prints by someone other than the artist. One (1) print of a given piece of artwork is allowed so long as there are no multiple copies of said print in the Vendors Room; if you wish to sell multiple prints of your artwork, please make arrangements with one of the vendors. Be warned, though, that it is illegal to turn your hotel room into a mini-vendors room: you will lose all rights to your room and you will be ejected from the hotel and the convention (not to mention possibly getting arrested and/or banned from any future conventions, depending on the severity of the violation. This last is up to the hotel and the Con-chair).

3. SPACE IS ALLOTTED ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE BASIS: The deadline for submitting art is Saturday. IF (and that's a big if) there is still space, artists will be permitted to continue checking in and hanging/displaying on a table artwork until all available space is filled.

3a. Corollary rules for Artist Guests: Unless prior arrangements are made through Guest Relations and the Art Show Director, display space reserved for Artist Guests WILL NOT BE HELD PAST 2PM SATURDAY. Do not expect to have space automatically reserved for your use as an attending Artist Guest (much less expect for it to be held indefinitely): only Artist Guests who state that they will be displaying work in the Art Show will have reserved space. Additionally, only Artist Guests who make arrangements for a late check-in into the Art Show will have their space held past Noon Saturday deadline. NO SPACE WILL BE HELD PAST PRE-ARRANGED LATE CHECK-IN TIMES.

4. ARTISTS HANG/DISPLAY THEIR OWN ARTWORK; HELPERS WILL BE PROVIDED IF NECESSARY: Hanging equipment (peg hooks and clips) will also be provided for hanging pictures. Please have your 2-D artwork ready to hang (i.e. matted and/or framed) when you arrive at the convention. The Art Show does not provide matting or framing materials.

5. THE ART SHOW DOES NOT PROVIDE DISPLAY CASES: Please provide you own If you are displaying hand-crafted jewelry or other items you consider to be highly valuable/easy to steal if not contained in a display case. The Art Show will do everything in its power to otherwise prevent theft and/or damage to artwork.

6. PLEASE RESTRICT YOUR DISPLAY TO TWO (2) PANELS AND ONE-HALF (1/2) TABLE OR ONE (1) PANEL AND ONE (1) TABLE: Floor space for large stand-up 3-D art can be arranged, but communicate with Art Show Director first about any special displaying needs. If more hanging space is needed, please communicate with Art Show Director first and/or wait to see if space is still available after 12PM Saturday.

7. PLEASE RESTRICT THE NUMBER OF NOT-FOR-SALE (NFS) ITEMS TO FIVE (5): These pieces must be marked clearly as NFS on the bid sheet by red stickers (which will be provided by the Art Show) and/or X-ing out the section for placing bids on the relevant bid sheets.

8. HENTAI ART MUST BE PLACED IN THE HENTAI SECTION OF THE ART SHOW: Hentai is defined as sexually explicit, highly graphic work. If there is a question about a particular piece of artwork, the Art Show Director is the first and last authority on the subject: if the artwork is deemed to be too sexually graphic, the artwork must be displayed in the Hentai section. Tables will be provided for displaying 3D hentai art. Artwork that contains tasteful/discreet nudity will be permitted to be displayed outside the Hentai section.

9. IF AN AGENT IS CHECKING IN, DISPLAYING, AND CHECKING OUT ARTWORK, HE/SHE MUST HAVE A LETTER OF PERMISSION FROM YOU WITH YOUR NAME, DATE, AND SIGNATURE ON IT: If you can't be there in person, make sure the person representing you has the proper authorization or he/she will not be allowed to display your work.

10. IF YOU NEED TO CHECK OUT BEFORE 2:00 PM SUNDAY, PLEASE MAKE THE NECESSARY ARRANGEMENTS WITH THE ART SHOW DIRECTOR AND STAFF AS FAR IN ADVANCE AS POSSIBLE: This cannot be emphasized strongly enough --- SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS OF ANY KIND MUST BE MADE IN ADVANCE. If you wait until you arrive at the convention, the Art Show will not be able to make such arrangements. The only exception to this rule is if you do not have art that has any bids on it --- you may check out your unsold art before 2:00 PM Sunday, preferably after the Art Show closes to prepare for the Auction.

11. ANIME MID-ATLANTIC COLLECTS A 10% COMISSION ON ALL SALES: There are no other fees.

12. PAYMENT FOR SOLD ARTWORK WILL BE BY CHECK: You will receive payment for your sold art thirty (30) days after the convention is over. If you need to receive payment at the convention, please communicate with Art Show Director and/or the Convention Chairman first as far in advance as possible. No special arrangements will be possible if you postpone such arrangements until arriving at the convention. You have been warned.

Rules of Public Conduct
  1. NO SMOKING: It's a fire code violation and it irritates the oxygen-breathers attending the convention --- not to mention that it also ticks off the Art Show Director, who doesn't smoke.

  2. NO PHOTOGRAPHY: None, nada, zip. Video taping also falls under this prohibition. If you have snuck in a camera and are seen using it, you will be asked to leave the Art Show. ONLY PROFFESSIONAL MEDIA WITH WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM THE CONVENTION CHAIRMAN AND ARTISTS ARCHIVING THEIR OWN WORK ARE EXEMPT.

  3. ALL PACKAGES, LONG COATS AND CLOAKS, CAMERAS AND WEAPONRY MUST BE CHECKED AT THE DOOR: You will not be permitted in the Art Show until such items are checked. It's as much for your security as for the Art Show's security AND the safety of the artists' work.

  4. DO NOT TOUCH ANY PIECE OF 3-D ARTWORK: Only if the artist has made a note or sign allowing and/or inviting you to touch the artwork and has made the Art Show Director aware of this permission can you do so.

  5. NO FOOD OR DRINK TO BE BROUGHT INTO ART SHOW: If you should have any food or drink with you, finish consuming it outside the Art Show before entering. You will not be permitted into the Art Show if you do not comply --- you risk the wrath of both the Art Show Director and the artists, especially if you damage any work. The only exception to this rule is food and drink supplied by the Art Show itself for parties in the Art Show.

  6. NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF SIXTEEN WILL BE PERMITTED INTO THE HENTAI SECTION WITHOUT AN ADULT. Corollary rule: NO ONE UNDER THE AGE OF TWELVE WILL BE PERMITTED IN THE HENTAI SECTION AT ALL. Sorry, but sexually explicit material is only to be viewed by those individuals deemed either by the law or the parents/guardians to be mentally and emotionally mature.
